Issue No. 11 of the «Petersburg Theatrical Journal» is mostly devoted the actors’arts and personalities of the actors ofPetersburg. lt opens with the historical essays on the luminaries of the theatrical stages in Petersburg of the 19-th century. A. Sakhnovskaya-Pankeyeva publishes the historical portrait of Nadezhda Samoylova that is within the famous theatrical dynasty of the Samoilovs, while I. Fatkir writes on the famous Konstantin Varlamov the popularity of whom in the beginning of the 20-th century was asort of a legend. D. Krizhanskaya devotes her article to Alla Nasimova who made her victories on the stages of America early in the 20-th century, analyses the reasons of these successes of the actress. Y. Alianski brings the publication of Maria Babanov’s letters. The younger critics of Petersburg publish a series of articles on the petesburgian actors of today: H. Stepanova — on the most experienced actress of the Maly Dramatic Theatre Yevgenia Barkan, K. Brzhesin- skaya — on Alexey Devotchenko, A. Krilova — on Tatyana Grigoryeva (the Youth Theatre). This part is added by a great number of inreviews with Marina Solopchenko, Igor Volkov, Vladimir Tatosov, Yuri Ovsianko, the actress from Omsk Ms. Marina Kroytor (the interviews have been taken’by A. Semyonkova, L. Tsarkova, K. Brzhesinskaya, S. Doronina, S. Yanevskaya). M. Dmitrevskaya makes the review of the last Rezo Gabriadzes’s production «The song about Volga» and E. Sokolinski analises the new per — formance of Tatiana Kazakova «Shadows» in Comedy Theatre. The recent first nights in Petersburg of "The Flying Mouse«(staged by A. Gaudasinsky, the Maly Opera Theatre) and «The Butterfly» (drector R. Viktyuk, the Satire Theatre), «The Player» (staged by T. Chkheidze in the Mariinsky Theatre), «The Wedding in Nun- nery» (staged by V. Pazi) and «Gamblers» (staged by Y. Alexandrov in St. Petersburg Opera Theatre). These performances are reviewed by D. Kuzmina, K. Bratsky, M. Pugel, Ye. Tretyakova, N. Potapova, K. Utchitel) «The personalities» of Edward Kochergin — «The stories of the Wandering Dog» — as well as «The Night Lamp» by Andrey Tolubeyev are represented in the stories of these experienced staging people. Vadim Guk is began under a new personal rubrique. In the rubrique «The Teachers» I. Aleksaite writes about Elena Finkelshtein, V. Maltsev and O. Vanyutina recall Natalia Kusyakin. The section «Our Authors» contains the information on the authors of the issue.
